Artist • Designer • Editor
I have a BA in English Literature from UC Santa Cruz. I am graduating at end of August 2009 with a BFA in Graphic Design from IADT Seattle. I've worked many years as a technical editor, copy editor, and proofreader and continue to maintain my interest in applying these skills. With what I have learned in earning my degree in Graphic Design, I anticipate finding a position with a small design firm, non-profit organization, or other such business that will allow me to apply my unique combination of skills.
I've also been an artist all my life, obsessed with fine details; I am mostly self-taught. In the 1970’s through the 1990’s, my emphasis was 2-D fantasy art; I worked in ink, colored pencil, and artists’ markers. You can see examples of this art in the Fantasy Art section of this site.
In 1995 my chosen artistic expression changed when I walked into a bead shop and signed up for a couple of classes.
Beads have an ancient history throughout the world, and since the 1980's, beadwork as an art form and fine craft has been experiencing a tremendous renaissance. I love the infinite possibilities represented by beads and the play of color, light, and texture. My inspirations include the art of other cultures and the many colors and patterns in nature. I am intrigued by the relationship between mathematics, science, and art, which has lead me to produce beadwork based on fractal patterns.
My beadwork incorporates many techniques and both contemporary and vintage materials. Beadwork stimulates and challenges my imagination. Please see the Jewelry section for examples of my beadwork.
